Dear Matteson School District 162 Families,

It is with a heavy heart that we share news of a recent incident involving one of our students. A sixth-grader in our district was attacked by two pit bulls while playing outside. Thankfully, he is receiving medical care and is on the road to recovery.

As a community, we want to remind everyone to be cautious around unfamiliar animals, and to speak with your children about staying safe when playing outdoors. Please encourage them to avoid approaching stray or unknown animals and to alert an adult if they feel unsafe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this student and their family during this difficult time. We ask that you keep him in your hearts as they heal. If there are any updates or ways we can offer support as a district, we will be sure to share them with you.
